Am I the only one who stops when this number pops up on a glucose meter and thinks, “Damn. That could be on the meter advertisement box. I’ve got this.”
(Ignore the fact that I will surely be low, or high, or somewhere not exactly 104 mg/dL in a matter of hours. But in that moment, I’ve got this. Actually, since writing my post the other day, I’ve been actively working to spend more time in range and I’m seeing better results. Averages are tipping back into my favor, and I’m reminded once again how much of diabetes is a total crap shoot and how much is something I can change … and how much those ratios of crap:change fluctuate.)
I’m at a 280 right now… so I’m a bit jelly.
Very well explained. THAT should be on the meter advertisement box.
And I was 107 mg/dL this morning, just one off of the number on the box my Accu-Check came with
The corollary being don’t you always wish that just once the meter being advertised would read 253?
Every time “100” pops up I get really excited and think the same thing!
104 is magic. The few times I’ve gotten it I show my husband: “Look! I won!” (And the funny part is, I actually feel like I did!)
That’s how I feel when I look at the bg history on my OmniPod PDM and it shows 100% in range (70-150) for that day. I feel like I got A+ on an important test. Yippee!
I don’t have diabetes but I have family members that do. I came across your blog a couple days ago and showed them your posts. They liked how open you were and how real the situations you go through. I think its hard to keep physically healthy and mentally healthy and this is something that can help with the mental part. Its a good feeling being able to get what your going through out in the open and off your chest. I think that’s something that a lot of people could do with that have medical issues.
We cheer a 104 number in our house too. That’s called the “meter number.” Other numbers we make note of are 123 (called A-B-C), 100 (obviously), 200 (not as obvious, but still), and 227. 227 is called Jackee, as in one of the characters from the 80’s sitcom 227. You have to find ways to have a little fun with the numbers.
