On Tuesday, June 14th, I sent a letter on behalf of several organizations in the diabetes community to the CEO of United Healthcare to express concerns about the UHC/Medtronic decision. This letter was signed by 20 different diabetes organizations and groups.
I don’t have United Healthcare as my insurer and I also have a business relationship with Tandem (please read this disclosure about that relationship), but I am a person with diabetes. I don’t want insurance companies telling me what’s best for my diabetes; I want that decision made between me and my doctor.
The diabetes community has not fallen silent about this issue, but instead is developing a strategy to help deal with this specific diabetes access concern and access concerns going forward. #DiabetesAccessMatters isn’t limited to insulin pumps. It’s about people touched by diabetes having access to the resources we need to live a full and productive life after diagnosis.
