What's Next?

I don't do well with resolutions.  I've tried, but they end up being revolving doors of resolution.  The last few years have been a spin cycle of chaos, and I need to whittle things down to a more manageable size.  (Thank you for the quote that's forever in my head, Charlie Kaufman.)

This year, I only have one goal.  One resolution that touches into everything else - work, health, family, friends, emotional well-being.  It's not a big one, and it doesn't have any lists I can check off or apps I can download to mark my progress.  It's just a feeling.  A general state of being.  My 2012 resolution is to be happy.

Birdy learned this word just this week, and she lets it fly with reckless abandon.  Only it's rarely an exclamation or a question.  Her "happy" always ends with a period, as though it just is. "Happy."

May 2012 be a year of good health for all of us, emotionally and physically.  And I hope we're all happy, with ourselves, for others, and in general.

Happy New Year, you guys. xo

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. Happy New Year, friend.

Kerri, seeing Birdie at the end saying "Happy!" almost made me cry. She is so precious. Wishing that 2012 brings everyone happiness!

Happy New Year! Thanks for being a window into the diabetes world! You are one cool Rhode Island Chick :)
Great Job! (PS-I love that song)

what a great way to wake up today, to smiles, good thoughts, and... 'happy'. She's adorable!

HAPPY!

Thank you, Kerri. For everything. As others commented, marvelously awesome way to wake up and have your video to enjoy over first cup of coffee. Bestest and happiest Happy New Year to you guys. See you in 2012, my friend!

A very, very Happy New Year, Kerri! And to Chris and the little Birdy and your family.

Cheers,
Allison + Erik

Wonderful (and adorable) video, Kerri. Happy New Year!

I need some HAPPY too!

Thanks for sharing your story with us in 2011.

Happy sounds like a great resolution (and one I might steal).

If I had that play kitchen I would be pretty happy too! :D

Happy.

I like it. Let's do it. Keep posting pics & videos of Birdie and I think we'll manage just fine. She always makes me smile. Which makes me happy.

Thanks for sharing her with us. And for always writing the truth as you see it. Whether it's good or bad, I take a lot of comfort in knowing that what you write is real & heartfelt. That means a lot in a world with more than its fair share of plastic people.

Happy New Year, Sparlings!!!

I HAVE MANY REASONS TO BE HAPPY! IN THE LAST HALF OF 2011, I HAVE MADE A DETERMINED EFFORT TO KEEP MY BG'S IN GOOD CONTROL. I AM THANKFUL THAT THERE ARE SO MANY TOOLS AVAILABLE TO US THAT MAKE THIS A POSSIBILTY. MY SELF MANAGEMENT HAS BEEN THE BEST OF MY LIFE DURING THIS PERIOD. CARRIE'S BLOG HAS BEEN AN INSPIRATION THAT HAS HELPED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. THANKS!

Kerri,

Thank you so much for your blog. I love/appreciate/respect that you share ALL your experiences, not just the happy 'no-hitter' ones. I'm 25 and my T1 is 17. We have a love hate relationship :).
Your video made me cry. Birdy is so cute, but once I got to the 'diabetes section'.. whew.. grab the tissues!

Happy is a GREAT resolution - that was mine last year :) This year it's "no cell phone ANYTHING while driving in the car." No phone calls, no checking anything at stop lights, nothing. I've just seen too many bad things happen with folks not paying attention because they were calling someone, chatting away, etc, and I don't want anything to happen to me or my family. I can wait 10-15 minutes or make a stop off the road to chat with someone - heck, we did it for years and years BEFORE cell phones, we can do it now! :)

I so envy you. Wish we had a toddler in the house (my favorite age). So adorable. Enjoy her; they grow up so fast.

Her little voice at the end!

Happy, happy friend. Happy sounds like a great plan.

I just started reading your blog Kerri and you do a great job with it. Last year my resolution was to "be positive" and it was one of the best resolutions I ever set for myself. Happy New Year!

Hi Kerri,

Great Video, Birdy is such a Cutie... Happy New Year to you and the Family...

HAPPY. i love it. if more people practiced HAPPY what a fabulous world it would be. i, too, am going to try to be HAPPY everyday. if one wakes up and decides to be HAPPY, then it will be!
all the best to you and your family for 2012.

Awesome resolution! And your Birdy is so adorable!

I just have to ask, because I LOVE that film too...which quote specifically? There are so many good ones! I think the one that has stayed with me since the first time I saw that film was "You are what you love, not what loves you" because, well, Kaufman is brilliant and can capture that so well.

Your link goes to the entire quotable quotes page and I can see how a few of the quotes would apply to the "Happy." resolution...

**memorable quotes**
Not quotable quotes (think that is a book I have at home...)

:) Happy New Year!

Happy. What a wonderful wish for the new year! Sounds perfect. Wishing a Happy and healthy new year to you and yours. Thank you for sharing your adventures ... Be happy.

Thank you Kerri....for always making me laugh and cry. My daughter was diagnosed in 2011 and finding your site has been inspiring and helpful in so many ways. I find myself sending certain entries to my family....to help them understand what life is like with diabetes. My new years resolution is also to just be happy, as you put it. I have told many friends that I don't want to dwell but to live in the moment and be content with life as it is. We can't go back so why not look forward and look ahead to all the wonderful things life has to offer.

Happy New Year!!

(BTW.....your daughter is absolutely adorable!!)

I can't think of a better (non)resolution and goal for 2012. I'm hoping for more happy this year myself - the end of 2011 was a tough one. So here is to a fresh start and LOADS of happy to you, Chris and Birdy!! Love you!

I love how simple yet strong your resolution for 2012 is. I want the same as well :) I loved your slide show. So cute!!

Happy 2012! You are such a blessing and inspiration to me and to my daughter Alexa who will be 13 next week. We added a new member to our household - a GoldenDoodle puppy and were stumped for names - until I mentioned yours. Kerri she is! She is beautiful and amazing just like you and a wonderful companion to Alexa. Maybe she'll even learn to notice those pesky lows!

Happy, Happy! We love you!

haha love the re-cap of 2011, but did you notice that you are wearing the same white shirt in almost all of the pictures? hahaha. How do you keep it so white?

Thanks for writing such a great blog and HAPPY new year!

Start small

Happy New Year!

I never (never) make new years resolutions. But this year I decided I would try to change some not so good habits.

This month I'm focusing on drinking more water. And so far I've been able to get down at least 60 ounces every day. I'm hoping that will help my renal system clear out any crap. I'm also hoping that it'll help me avoid colds/flus/coughs this holiday season. If I can make it to the end of January, I know this will be a habit. Here's hoping.
