Thirty Reasons.
My birthday was happy. I have thirty reasons.
- We stayed at a bed and breakfast that was so out of the way that it was like being in another country.
- The bed was king-sized with many fluffy pillow and ZERO cats milling about.
- Our room had a jacuzzi tub and a fireplace.
- I'm now mature enough to write "jacuzzi tub and fireplace" without feeling like pointing out something shiny.
- Hey! Something shiny!
- (Being 30 doesn't mean I am devoid of the ability to blush. Scratch off No. 4 - it's obviously a lie.)
- An early day-before-dinner included onion rings. That, in and of itself, means certain joy.
- My cell phone stayed OFF for hours on end, only checking occasionally for birthday messages from my friends and family.
- An early birthday message from my oldest friend in the world included a link to this photo, which made me smile and think about first grade.
- I woke up on my birthday without setting an alarm, and had the most delicious coffee and eggs for breakfast.
- I didn't feel any different, and I felt good that I was marking another healthy year.
- The weather was edging towards warm, the sun was bright, and my husband is excellent company.
- I had a beer and French Toast for lunch. That was a first.
- When we returned from lunch, we found that the woman who ran the B&B had left an African Violet for me as a birthday gift.
- The woman who cleaned the room also didn't fuss about the used test strips that almost made it into the garbage can. Instead, she stacked them up quite nicely on the bathroom sink, in case I needed them.
- This made me laugh. I can't exactly explain why.
- We watched movies, took a nap, and talked about our future.
- You couldn't see my pump at all in the black dress I wore to dinner.
- Thanks to the magic of the GPS, we made it to the restaurant for dinner without getting completely lost.
- We consumed eggplant, fresh bread with olive oil and sea salt, fried mozzarella, and lemon meringue dessert and my blood sugar stayed so well-behaved I thought I might be cured.
- When I mispronounced "meringue" as "merengue," Chris didn't die laughing.
- Birthday text from NBF: "It's the beginning of the best part!" Damn straight.
- Champagne makes the best POP! noise ever.
- My pump infusion site needed to be changed after only two days due to excessive time spent in aforementioned jacuzzi tub.
- I can't think of a better reason to have to change a pump site.
- We came home early in the afternoon and discovered that the cats cleaned up decently enough after the party they surely threw.
- In unpacking, I found a pair of shoes in the closet that I have never worn, making them new all over again. Unintentional birthday gift to myself, it seems.
- I checked the Internet out and saw so many wonderfully kind birthday messages that I got a little bit emotional.
- My handsome husband gave me a hug.
- Life is good.

I know I've told you this before but every time you point out something shiny I think of James Woods on Family Guy "oh, piece of candy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prvSM8TlIeI

Hey Kerri! Happy belated birthday! I enjoyed reading all of your 30 things. I too am amazed when eating crazy carb filled things doesn't send my blood sugar through the damn roof!
