Six Things on This January Friday
2. Coffee is good. Coffee may actually be the only thing keeping me awake this morning.
3. We had pizza last night for dinner. Blood sugar was 101 mg/dl before eating it. Climbed up to 291 mg/dl about two hours afterwards. Corrected down conservatively, just in case there was some insulin still kicking around in there. But of course, plummeted to 46 mg/dl at 5:03 am. Abby came to the rescue, patting me on the head and yelling until I woke up and stumbled out to the kitchen to drink grape juice straight from the bottle. (Note to Chris: I spilled on the floor a little bit. That’s why it looks like Grimace was shot in our kitchen. I’ll clean it up when I get home.) So now I feel like I’ve been mowed over by a truck. Grimace is safe, though. And that's what counts.
4. This Sunday boasts another new edition of dLifeTV. This one has a segment about diabetes in Hollywood, which I always find intriguing. The Halle Berry enigma is addressed, too, bu
t it’s still not known whether or not she’s type 1 or type 2. Hey Halle, (ha! - like she’s reading this), are you type 1 or type 2? Why are you so mysterious about it?
5. I have plans to take a jewelry beading class with Batman tomorrow and to see my mother on Sunday. I’m very much looking forward to all this bonding time. It’s been a while since I went home and I’m feeling a little homesick lately.
6. We watched a movie called “Danny Deckchair” last weekend, rented solely because it was about a guy who ties a bunch of yellow balloons to his lawn chair and sails away for an adventure. We waited for the red Netflix envelope like it was Christmas morning. For the record, we were surprisingly entertained by this film. Something about a bearded Aussie flying through the sky with huge, misspelled yellow balloons as his method of transport makes me smile just thinking about it. (Also made me want to try it and see if it would actually work. Where can I buy a helium tank?)And the beat goes on.
Off for more coffee.

We've got a technique set up for when Brendon eats pizza. He never gets the post-pizza highs.
Let me know if you want me to email it to you.

Yes, please! I don't eat pizza very often, but sometimes at night it's a tricky task.

I would love to have my blog included in your list. It is at http://chrissieinbelgium.blogspot.com . Thank you! Your post about "kitty" reminded me of the little dog stuffed-animal I took with me to the hospital when I first got diabetes.Have fun on your vacation!

Hi Chrissie - You're already on there! Under "Chrissie's Diabetes Blog," but of course!
And everyone seems to have that comforting little critter they totted around with when they were first diagnosed. The names always make me grin.

I've seen Danny Deckchair--thought I was the only one who's heard of it (Mr. L. thinks I'm insane when I dig up these obscure arthouse flicks at the video store)--and thought it was goofy and funny.
One quick request--my blog's officially called Managing The Sweetness Within (I think you have it as just The Sweetness Within). Thanks!

George - I went and linked out to Grimace. He was a big purple fella who was part of the McDonald's marketing campaign. He is astounding. Go click!
Lyrehca - Thank goodness - another person who has seen Danny Deckchair. It's good to know that Chris and I aren't the only ones. :)
And I've updated your link - sorry for having it listed incorrectly this whole time!

They have done the helium ballon chair thing on Mythbusters. You can float yourself around like that. Not so much with controlling where you can go though.

Don't know if I'm posting right, my first time :-) Just to let you know: Mythbusters on the discovery channel actually tried to bust a myth similar to this (guy with balloons and a chair). I found it on the mythbuster's website but I can't remember how it ended. Here's what the discoverychannel website said: Pilot 3: Larry's Lawn-Chair Balloon:
So, this guy named Larry Walters attached something like 45 weather balloons to this lawn chair. One of the tethers broke on the unemployed truck driver's little invention, shooting him straight up into the air. Apparently he sailed to 16,000 feet, where he was spotted by airline pilots, eventually closing LAX airport. He was finally rescued by a helicopter after he floated out to sea. Is this popular Internet legend full of hot air? Will Jamie and Adam close LAX?
So Keri, if you'll learn whether it worked or not, maybe you could fly too!! :-)

I should clarify. I am quite familiar with Grimace. I just meant which species. Like What the Hell is he? Some have said a shake but that makes no sense. I am actually laughing at the fact that I typing this much about Grimace! LOL

OMG - I just clicked on the "grimace" link. Apparently we will never know.

I would also love to have my blog on your list. http://www.sarainwestpalm.blogspot.com and I have definitely given up on pizza, it is too hard to do the math on :)

George - Laughing ... hard ... Nothing can kill the Grimace.
Alison - Thanks! I added you to the blogroll, too. I can't believe I was missing yours!
Sara - You've been added, too. :) And pizza is a disaster. Why, oh why, does it have to be so tasty?

Greg has pizza pretty much figured out - even with the MDI's. pasta? depends on the sauce with the pasta...
and still way too jealous of your vacation...

I love Danny Deckchair - it's a cute movie. I don't know if the lead actor is Australian though. I always thought he was English.

Regarding pizza, or other foods that have a lot of fat like peanut butter, I find that a 6 hour combo bolus works great for my 9 year old. Sometimes you can take away from the total bolus (something that John Walsh talks about in his books on pumping), but other times I add in extra on top of the total insulin dose.
