Bring on St. John!

“All work and no play makes Kerri … need a vacation.”

There’s been a lot of work going on lately.  The constant flurry of activity in my office, the fun of the ol’ blogosphere, and assorted other writing adventures.  While I enjoy everything that I’m involved in, I do find myself altogether way too close to a computer all the time.  I understand HTML coding now.

I fear I may be becoming a geek.  ;)

It’s time for a vacation.

So Chris and I have booked a 10 day trip to St. John in the Virgin Islands.  White sand beaches, sunshine, and relaxation.  We’ve booked a few nights at the Concordia Eco-Tents (they sound tremendously cool and sort of sexy), rented a Jeep, and have plans to drink some of the finest Virgin Islands Pale Ale ever draught.  (Note:  The beer is fantastic.  You crack open the bottle and it smells like mangos.  And it is created and brewed by one of Chris’s friends from home – he moved to St. John a few years ago.  Nice gig, that.)

I am so excited for this vacation that I’m almost considering not using my pal Xanax to fly.  (But of course I will, because I’m a wimpy-wimp.)  We’ll be away for Chris’s birthday at the end of March.  Nice way to escape the winter that has finally arrived.

Bring on St. John!

I can't wait to walk on this beach.

“And, on a completely random note, the Aveeno hand lotion stuff makes my blood sugar appear higher than it actually is,” says Kerri, who tested in at 204 mg/dl, corrected it, and ended up at 51 mg/dl.  A few minutes ago, I tested at 185 mg/dl, washed my hands, and rechecked to test my theory – 114 mg/dl.  Ah ha!  Pesky hand lotion.  Good thing you’re repairing my hands or I’d chuck you out the window.

Yay for vacation Kerri!

It's the oatmeal in the lotion, I bet. Aveeno has the oatmeal, right?

Guess where we're going to be! But, we're going at the end of February so I won't be able to crash your vacation :(

That's interesting about the Aveeno. I didn't think about the oatmeal affecting the reading like that, but it makes sense.

Good problem solving skills you have!

Nicole - It does have oatmeal. Is that what trips things up?

Shannon - No shit, you're going to St. John in February? Stop at The Tap Room (Chris's friend's new bar) and ask for a bottle of Virgin Islands Pale Ale. This stuff is delicious. And this is coming from a girl who hates beer. ;)

I lied....we'll be in St. Thomas (BRITISH Virgin Islands). They all sound the same to me :)

We're going on an 8 day cruise. I can't wait!!

Don't forget to subtract the fiber in the oatmeal (6 grams per serving)....so you can use a little bit more when your hands are extremely dry. Wink-wink.

I've had a (WAY) higher-than-normal reading from lotioned up hands, too. I realized it way too late, though. And it wasn't Aveeno lotion, but it was some sort of ultra-moisturizing lotion (the tips of my fingers get super dry in the winter).

my (non aveeno) lotions also affect my blood sugar readings.

Hey, Maho Bay is where Colleen took the Barton / Dream Big SCUBA camp a few summers ago. I hear it's divine!

Oh NO FAIR! I was just sitting here at working thinking, I NEEEED a vacation, then I click and see that wonderful beach. AHHHHhhhhhhhh..

LOL

Have fun!

Ditto - ANY kind of lotion screws up my readings...

I'm soooo jealous - your vacation sounds awesome!

That is awesome! You deserve a total break!

Haha, I thought you meant St John's Wort and I was worried about you for a moment! Enjoy - the tropics are divine, although I haven't been to that part of them.
I have some hand lotion that does that to my bg levels too without oatmeal - sorry, I thought I warned you! 51 is NO fun.

I'm green over here - absolutely GREEN WITH ENVY!!!

I have ALWAYS wanted to go the virgin islands!! That picture looks absolutely heavenly *sigh*. You're going to have a wonderful time :)

*sigh* It's a good thing you're such a nice person or I might be tempted to call you names for going on such a gorgeous vacation.

Have fun. Bee-yotch.

Julia - HA!! I laughed out loud at my desk at that one, to the point where my boss came over and checked on me. ;)

I am with Julia-lucky you.
Send us all a sun tan!!!

ARGH. I am so done with winter, as you know. We had planned on Scotland or Iceland for our anniversary in April but I am so done with winter as you know. And we got a postcard from a friend who went to the USVI over New Year's, which irritated me because I am so done with winter as you know. JEALOUS.

I'm so jealous :) twice, at your work and vacation.

About the hand lotion raising bg, it's not only that particular one you're using, all of them tend to that, so as a rule I always wash my hands before testing.

Bon voyage! Glad your hands are better. Salt water usually helps too - so play in the water and have fun.

Oh my gosh Kerri that vacation sounds wonderful. Can I come in your suitcase? The pictures of the place where you are staying are absolutely breathtaking.
