Monday’s Musings.

What’s On My Bad List:
  • Route 95 from RI to CT – Forever clogged with drivers in BMW’s who want to go 75 mph and then stop all of a sudden for no reason
  • Ms. Siah Sausage – She has eaten three of my necklaces over the last two weeks.  Bit the chains right in half, like a wolverine.  Blasted animal.
  • The Oppressive Heat – Enough already.  Stop it, global warming!
  • Insurance – Between car and medical, I’m spent.
  • Being Sleepy – Too many late nights and early mornings.  I miss my bed.
What’s On My Good List:Shark Week.
  • Shark Week – I am scared to pieces of sharks but oh how I love Shark Week.
  • My adorable nephew and his preoccupation with zombies
  • Soft serve ice cream – Chocolate/Vanila swirl.  I could go for one right now.
  • Norwalk Highlights – Include the Maritime Aquarium and Chocopologie
  • Exist Magazine – Have you read it?
  • Charlotte Jane – Welcome to the world, Julia’s beautiful new baby!
  • Abby the Cat – Big, fat, sleeps on my head.  Detects low bloodsugars.  Double pawed.
  • Shop Rite – Newly discovered grocery haven.  Much cheaper than Stop & Shop.  They also have the blueberry tea, so it’s on.
  • An Uzi at the Alamo – If you haven’t seen this movie yet, there’s no excuse.  It’s on NetFlix, for crying out loud!
  • And lastly, the RI beaches.  They are gorgeous.  Rolling Atlantic waves, white sand, hot sun.  My best friend and I claimed a patch of beach for a few hours on Sunday and it was just perfect.  I love my job and my apartment, but I miss that ocean.  The beaches here in Norwalk just don’t cut it.
I’m also looking for some new books to read.  Any suggestions?  How was your weekend??

I am not a member of Netflix so I may have to sign up to check out that flick!

The big weekend news is that the newly formed band that I am a part of wrote a song and recorded it. So sweet!
Oh and I am so freaking sore. I am gonna post about my exercise pains tonight! OUCH!

I just finished reading:

"In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote. It was excellent.

"The Ivy Chronicles" by Karen Quinn. Entertaining.

"With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa" by E.B. Sledge. Detailed account of combat during WW2. Amazing he came out alive and unharmed...physically.

I'm in the middle of a couple of others.

I adore all of the Harry Potter books. There is just something about the way J.K. writes that really sucks you into the story (in a good way of course).

Ahhh... Netflix. Makes my bad list I'm afraid as it isn't available in the UK. And online rentals from Blockbuster and Amazon just don't cut it - too much hard work! I eagerly await a global expansion of Netflix.

Books - I'm in the middle of 'But Inside I'm Screaming' by Elizabeth Flock, which I can highly recommend.

Or how about the new edition of 'Pumping Insulin'?!

George - Good for you, getting out there and exercising until it hurts! And recording a song with your band? You are almost as cool as Shannon ... (come one, she saw Jude Law!)

Shannon - I can't even think of what to say to you. I'm still in awe.

Deanna - Thank you for stopping by again. Glad to see you here! I have devoured the Harry Potter series already. I'm one of those girls waiting in line at Waldenbooks the day the book is released. (Yes, I've also gone at midnight. Yes, I'm sighing as I write this.)

Caro - I'm sorry the UK doesn't have Netflix. I'll have to find a way to get you a copy of the film. You can see the trailer on www.anuziatthealamo.com if you have Quicktime. And I'm definitely checking out the Elizabeth Flock book. The title is brilliant.

I got Uzi from Netflix & loved it!!!!! Quite the talented pair you are!
Recently I have read: FIve Quarters of the Orange by Joanne Harris which I really liked. Douglas Coupland's Eleanor Rigby which I loved, The Kite Runner by Khaleed Hosseini and Twighlight by Stephanie Meyer - amamzing! I've also read But Inside I'm Screaming and liked it.

my cats just seem to be attracted to my insulin pump. they're forever trying to get at it. also they like the tie of my bikini, and have scratched marks on my back to prove it.

Are you in awe because of the books or because I nearly made out with Jude Law? LOL.

Just wait until you add homeowner's and life insurance to the mix... then the fun really begins!

Sadly, I too am not a Netflix member. We spend all our entertainment budget on HBO and Showtime. Perhaps I'll mooch a request in the queue from a friend with Netflix.

As for reading, I'm on a dog-book kick right now (which I realize is a completely strange genre to be stuck in, but what can I say?). I'm currently reading "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" by Mark Haddon, which I have a hunch you'll like.

Melissa - I'm glad you loved it! Thanks for checking it out. And I've tried to start The Kite Runner three times but I'm having trouble getting into it. Did you have that problem? I feel odd about it, since people seem to love that book.

Vicki - Siah has taken nibbles on my pump. This post from last summer comes complete with pictures of her offensive actions.

Shannon - Jude Law. He is obviously madly in love with you. Looking at you all lingeringly and all. :)

Kevin, again you are commenting as I am commenting. :) I read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time a few months ago, after being intrigued by the upsidedown dog on the dark red cover. That book was awesome. Excellent recommendation. What else ya got?

Yes...we at least made out with our eyes....hehe.

I loved The Kite Runner by the way. I strongly suggest sticking with it.

Hi there -
Try reading ' The year the Music Changed ' by Diane Coulter Thomas - It was great! Also - Angels Fall, by Nora Roberts was a freat read.

Now that I think about it I did have trouble getting into but I persevered because it was for the Knit & Lit club. It just might not be your kind of book. There are many books that others seem to love that I just don't get.

Have you read Life of Pi yet? If not, you are missing out.

Melissa - I'll give it another go, but it may just be That Book I couldn't get into.

Mary Ellen - I'll definitely check out your suggestions. Thanks for commenting!

Allison - I've heard so many great things about Life of Pi but I have yet to read it. I'll be sure to bump it up to the top of my list.

And Shannon, aka Mrs. Jude Law - Made out with your eyes? I'm both laughing and melting with envy. :)

If you loved 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' you should definitely get hold of'The Village Under the Sea &The Sad Girl &The Talking Horse' - a collection of poems by Mark Haddon. 'This Poem is Certificate 18' never fails to make me feel good!

I'd love to see An Uzi at the Alamo, if you have any suggestions for how I can get a copy.

For books, check out The Dive From Clausen's Pier or The Namesake. Both are incredible. Oh, and Kerri, you once asked me about the book I read where the main character was diabetic and was dealing with the death of her boyfriend in a hunting accident (weird, I know). It was called something like Journey to the Sun. I keep meaning to post about diabetic lit. Let me know if you find more.

I would recommend Running With Scissors. I have also read The Namesake (L's recommendation) and ditto.

Sorry I forgot The Secret Life of Bees and The Tatooed Girl

"The Expected One" - Kathleen McGowan. Mary Magdalene as you've never seen Her before.

Methinks the Goddess is afoot, my friend.

Dood, whatEVER about books. Have you actually BEEN to that chocolate place? And do you have a cot and, like, a hand cart in your new place? Because a. I'm coming to visit the chocolate...I mean, you and b. you'll need the hand cart to carry me out of the chocolate place.

Now I have to go read about Shannon and Jude Law. Just to make myself a little more jealous than I previously was.

Julia - The chocolate place is fantastic and yes, Chris and I have been several times. Bit of an odd combo, the Fitness Fella and his Diabetic Lady, indulging at Chocopologie. But the stuff is delicious. All in moderation, my friend. You come visit whenever you want. Or just email me your mailing address and perhaps a "Hooray for Chocolate and Hooray for Charlotte Jane" care package will arrive at your PO Box. :)

Any books by James Herriot - the Yorkshire vet are wonderful! I read them years ago and am reading them again this summer! You will love them - the cats will too!
